Privacy Policy
How this site handles data. Last updated August 25, 2026.
On this page
We cover privacy issues in smart glasses for a living, so our own privacy practices should hold up to the same scrutiny. This policy explains, in plain language, what data Smart Glasses Decoded collects and why.
The short version
This is a content site. We don't require accounts, we don't run logins, and we don't ask for personal information. The data that touches this site falls into three buckets: anonymous analytics (page views, referrers, device type), server logs kept by our hosting provider (IP addresses for security and abuse prevention), and email you send us if you choose to contact us. That's the entire list.
Analytics
We use Rybbit, a cookieless web-analytics service, to understand which guides help people and which need work — it counts page views and outbound link clicks, sets no cookies, and stores no cross-site or advertising identifiers — for example, which compatibility pages readers finish, and where they bail. We do not build advertising profiles, we do not sell data, and we do not run cross-site tracking pixels from advertising networks. Where analytics configuration exists (for instance, Google Search Console for search performance), it is connected to the property, not to individuals.
Cookies
The site uses no advertising cookies. Functionally, we store at most a theme preference (light or dark) and any settings you enter in our interactive tools — the Glasses Finder, compatibility checker, and comparison tool. These run entirely in your browser: your answers are not transmitted to or stored on our servers. Clearing your browser storage erases them completely.
External links and retailer links
When you click through to a manufacturer or retailer (marked as external links), you leave this site and are subject to that destination's privacy practices, which are materially different from ours — most retailers run extensive tracking and advertising programs. We mark outbound commercial links with rel="nofollow sponsored" regardless of affiliate status, so search engines never mistake them for editorial endorsements. See our affiliate disclosure for the current commercial status of links.
If you email us, we keep your message and address for as long as needed to handle your request and our reply. We don't send marketing email, we don't publish correspondence without permission, and we don't add contacts to lists.
Children
The site is aimed at adults making purchase decisions. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13, and since we collect almost nothing from anyone, there is very little to collect.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If we ever add a data practice that falls outside the three buckets described above, the change will be conspicuous, not buried.
Questions
Privacy questions can go to the address on our contact page. A note on irony-awareness: a site about camera glasses being relaxed about bystander privacy would be a bad look — our coverage of those issues lives in Smart Glasses, Cameras, and Privacy, and we hold ourselves to the standard we argue for there.
